In Memoriam: Jocelyn Zimmerman

It is in sure and certain hope of the resurrection that we announce the death of Jocelyn E. Zimmerman, 85, of Lewisburg. Jocelyn was the spouse of Rev. Phil Zimmerman who served Follmer Parish for over 30 years. She died on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born in Harrisburg on Oct. 5, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Robert R. and Mary (Gutknecht) Swope. She was married to Rev. P. Philip Zimmerman Jr. until his death in 2015.

Jocelyn was a 1957 graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg and a 1961 graduate of Susquehanna University. She was an elementary music teacher in the Milton School District.

She was very active with her husband in Follmer Lutheran Parish where she was choir director and organist. She loved to play piano for hymn sings and holiday entertainment at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village. She enjoyed making her own greeting cards and rubber stamping.

Jocelyn is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, David C. Zimmerman of Hanover, Andrew A. and Jill K. Zimmerman of Williamsburg, Va., and Mark P. and Truly W. Zimmerman of Selinsgrove; six grandchildren, Michael B., D. Christopher, Benjamin M., Chester P., Aaron C., and Sarah Elise Zimmerman; and two great-grandsons, River B. and Miles M. Zimmerman.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Laura B. Zimmerman; and a brother, R. Brent Swope.

Friends and relatives will be received Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 70 S. Mill Road, Potts Grove, where funeral services will begin at 11 with Rev. Dr. Lisa Barnes officiating.

Burial will follow in Follmer Church Cemetery, Milton.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.
